Welcome to HTDF`S style and "wardrobe voyage"

Happy 1 of December, and welcome to How to do Fashions Christmas fairytale and the start of the theme "wardrobe voyage".

We want to do it differently this December than the last two years. So, in 2020, we made a sew-a-long for No. 21 Casablanca on Instagram. In 2021 the No. 3 Kastrup had our total focus, and we added sleeves, cuffs and a collar to it, and we also made it into a dress.

This year we will not make an advents calendar. We want to have one focus all December through New Year's Eve, which starts today. Here on the blog, we will talk about how to dress for all festive occasions. It is the perfect time for Christmas parties and New Year's Eve.

There is a tendency to turn up the volume in this last month of the year. We dress a bit more festive than the rest 11 months of the year. In a way, it is more acceptable to give it the entire enchilada for Christmas and new year dressing.

For many years I have been curious about how we dress for parties and special occasions. It is fascinating to see how we act and how we dress when we are going to be married, attend a special event or on New Year's Eve. It is like we don't compromise and just go all the way and dress after our inner dreams. I call this act our "wardrobe alter ego". We could learn something from that part of ourselves in everyday dressing and in life in general.

“The wardrobe alter ego is the style we in secret want to express, but in our everyday lives not dare to unfold.”

There can be many reasons we keep this "wardrobe alter ego" quiet. It could be because we are afraid of what others think or don't dare to show who that person is. Personally, I have been there myself. My "wardrobe alter ego" really came out when I got married. My dress, hair, and jewelry were so far from the style I had in my wardrobe then. My everyday style was graphic and minimalistic. A look that was more of a precedent in the fashion than in my personal dreams and wishes.

On my wedding day, I wore a long flowy silk dress inspired by 1930s Hollywood starlets, ultra-feminine with a soft look. I had waves in my hair and earrings with an antique look. I was dressed as the woman I felt like deep inside myself, the style I dreamed of wearing in my everyday life but did not have the courage to live out.

Not long after my wedding, I "came out" in that style I was dreaming of dressing in every day. I started by practicing how to do my hair and adding red lipstick to my look. I was looking for inspiration in other places than in fashion magazines. I became better and better at transforming what I found beautiful into my own style and then transferring it so it would work for my body.

The 1930s glamorous Movistar's and 1940s brave women were my greatest inspirations. Since I decided to be true to myself, style vice, I have altered my styles many times. In the beginning, I was very true to a specific look or time period because it made me less insecure. But now my style is more eclectic and combines many different styles. However, I always have the same inspirational core founded in the glamorous women from past decades, no matter if I wear trousers or dresses.

To get back to where I started before getting personal – we will, this December, have our eye on clothes for parties and festive occasions. We have made 4 "wardrobe alter egos". This type is more an expression of the feelings and values we want for our clothes. We will not focus on body types. Values and dreams about our clothes must stand before body types. For that simple reason, our bodyshape change over time, our personal references, dreams and values, are more a part of our personality and follow us more or less all life.

All the types are equal to the others! That is the most fantastic thing about personal style. Nothing is wrong, and nothing is correct. It is just a personal choice.

I hope the 4 "wardrobe alter ego" types, their outfit and description, can inspire you and maybe make you dig a bit deeper into how you dress and how your clothes should make you feel. Perhaps you already had these thoughts and are on your way to the perfect personal wardrobe. Otherwise, this could be a friendly push for you to dress according to your dreams. So, I hope you will start your wardrobe voyage with me. I am almost sure that one of the alter egos will appeal more than the others, or maybe you are a mix of more than one. But remember, there is no right or wrong. Personal style is one extensive buffet; you can pick what you like the most and make it yours.

The 4 alter egos are; Graphic  Glamour, Casual Chic, Sensual Classic and Playful Elegance.

Every Wednesday until New Year, we present a new alter ego for you. Then, we will dig deeper into the specific "Wardrope alter ego". So here you have a little sneak peek at the 4 egos.
