Wardrobe voyage guide: The journal

Now I'm back with even more wardrobe talk. I know the last one and a half month has been a lot about the wardrobe voyage, and I have to tell you that it will continue. Because if there is one thing every woman deserves, it's a wardrobe they feel at home and themselves in. Something that brings the best forward in them. It's not easy, and I will never say it is, but it's a valuable and fun journey. That's why I focus so much on this particular journey—the Wardrobe voyage.

I have had some short journeys in my wardrobe for a long time, and they are all a part of my big journey in life. I will never stop learning new things about myself or my wardrobe. I started a new journey this January – you can read more about it here – but it has only just begun. Maybe you want to join?

Remember, there is always time to begin your wardrobe voyage and create your dream wardrobe. You can use this guide whenever in a year or two from now or whenever you are ready because it is a very emotional journey.

If you want to join and start your own voyage, I've made a guide for you to follow. There is nothing hocus pocus or magic about it. It doesn't happen overnight. You have to work for it, and it's hard work and takes time. But it's also fun, and you can have a good time prioritizing yourself with these exercises.

Before you're ready to analyze and plan your wardrobe, you must have something to study and reflect over, and that's why you have to start with a diary or journal.

 Step one: The journal

It takes around 20 days, and these 20 days will be the fundament of your entire voyage and everything else: the analysis, reflection and plan. You must complete this step; you cannot skip it. In this period, you must NOT buy or sew any new clothing.

  • Take a photo of your outfit every day. You can use the same piece of clothing multiple times but in different combinations. It's a good idea to break out of your comfort zone and use clothing you rarely use. You have to experiment and try new things.

  • Take a photo every morning.

    • Before bed, write a note on your phone or in a notebook. Answer these 3 questions every day:  How good, and comfortable have you felt on a scale from 1 to 10? 10 is the best.

    • What did this outfit make you feel? (sexy, happy, shy, uncomfortable, dressy, invisible, etc. – write in sentences; the more descriptive you can be, the better later on)

    • Was there anything that could have made this outfit get a higher score than it did? If yes: What?

This is, of course, not everything; it's only the beginning. When you've done this for 20 days (minimum, you can do longer), you have to start the analysis, reflections and last but not least, clear out the wardrobe and build it again by planning so you don't make any impulses purchases or sew anything you will not use. As I said, it will take time and will be challenging.

But all that will come later on. Now I want to leave you with the guide and the diary-writing. Over the next couple of weeks, I will share this guide's steps with you.
